Introduction of the euro in Bulgaria

The Republic of Bulgaria will become an official member of the eurozone on January 1, 2026. The euro thus replaces the Bulgarian lev (BGN) as the legal tender and strengthens the country's economic integration into the European Union.

Dual pricing from August 2025

In preparation for the currency changeover, dual pricing is mandatory:
From August 1, 2025, prices for a period of twelve months must be displayed in both levs and euros. This measure is intended to create transparency, protect consumers and facilitate a smooth changeover.

What does this mean for companies and consumers?

For companies:

  • Customization of cash register systems and accounting software
  • Employee training
  • Communicating the changeover to customers

For consumers:

  • Clarity in price comparison
  • Conversion security
  • Protection against hidden price increases

A significant step for Europe

By joining the eurozone, Bulgaria is sending a strong signal for economic stability and European cooperation. The introduction of the euro not only brings advantages in payment transactions, but also strengthens the confidence of international investors.
